Yarn Shopping Top Tips

Since Shaws closed down it has left a skein-shaped hole in the hearts of many 🧶.

So we thought that we would share our top local and online Yarn shops for you to fulfil all of your yarn needs... and what better way to do that than asking our favourite crafters?

Laura recommends The Hive, a shop based in Risca that not only sells a fab selection of yarn but also supplies and kits for macrame, cross-stitch, etc.

They also offer craft workshops and group sessions where you can meet new people and enjoy a cuppa ;)

Ann told us she loves Tania’s cosy shop. She found all the yarn she wanted here. So many types and so many colours.

What she emphasised the most though was how welcoming the people here were. She found people to craft with, get advice from and made some great friendships at their Chat and Craft sessions!

If you’re near Neath, you definitely need to check this store out!

Recommended by Tina, Valley Wools has an extensive selection of yarn. So many options to choose from! And that’s not all as they also sell kits, tools and accessories.

Another recommendation from Tina, this store, which is based in Swansea, stocks a range of yarn. And big ones too!

Among their many yarns, they also sell locally produced Welsh wool. Talk about supporting our community!

This shop, located at Pontyclun, was recommended by Amy. She said - and I quote - “It’s a wonderful yarn shop“

Ruth and Jenny sell and showcase a beautiful selection of yarns from small British producers. They also host workshops for beginners as well as informal knitting and crochet group sessions!

Andrea told us about this store located in Tonypandy, Wales. They sell a bunch of cosy yarn, perfect for making clothes and plushies for your little ones!

This is also the perfect place to order some handmade knitted and crochetted makes if you don’t have enough time x

Recommended by two customers in a row, Andrea and Anne say that this is a one-of-a-kind shop as they are a mobile business and they very literally “Bring the wool to you“.

Of course, they also have a unit at Fairwater, Cardiff if you fancy popping in and doing some yarn shopping!

And now, some of our favourites!

Located at City Rd.

Did you know Gemma went to school with the owner’s son? Fun fact, isn’t it?

Sue runs this lush shop, selling supplies for a range of need crafts, a large supply of yarn of all colours, sizes and styles, as well as embroidery threads and craft accessories.

The yarn stall at Cardiff Market sells a variety of DK yarn and showcases some very fun and exciting makes! And it’s great to visit when you’re in town :)

Sarah from SJ&Gray says LoveCrafts is a great yarn website, especially as they have constant deals and sales.

Subscribe to the website for info about these great deals!

Gemma recommends Wool Warehouse for stocking a range of yarn brands.

Unlike other large retailers, this online yarn shop is independently owned by Holly and Andy!

And, of course, we cannot forget our very lush yarn shop which we have recently rearranged and stocked!

Why not pop in during a workshop, which happen pretty much every day (see here - workshop calendar) as we don't have set opening but are happy for you to pop in and browse whenever it shows we are there ;-)
