Enjoy slowing down in this beginners weekend workshop. You’ll learn safe cutting techniques with sloyd and curved knives as you are guided through the slow process of creating your own wooden cooking spatula and spoon to use in your kitchen every day. It’s such a great feeling being able to cook with something that you made with your own hands and just a couple of simple tools!
We’ll spend Saturday (10am - 3.30pm) covering all you need to know about using a straight (Sloyd) knife safely as we make our spatulas from some wood blanks, and we’ll begin the straight knife parts of our spoons. Please bring a packed lunch as we’ll stop for 30mins.
On Sunday (10am - 2pm) we’ll continue to carve our spoons, learning learn how to use a curved knife (Twca Cam) for the bowls of the spoons. We’ll finish off the carving and have the chance to decorate our utensils with coloured milk paint and apply a food safe salve of beeswax and mineral oil to keep them protected as we take them home to use. Feel free to bring some snacks to eat as you carve ;-)
This course is £75 for the weekend.
This workshop is suitable for age 16+ and the cost includes all of your materials, and refreshments provided in the sessions.
