Macrame making at Lark!
Let’s make macramé!
What is macramé?
It is a form of textile produced using knotting. The most popular knots are:
Lark’s head knot
Square knot
Half hitch knot
Spiral knot
These knots can be used to create a wide range of decorative and functional items.
What kinds of macramé do you teach at Lark?
Here at Lark we offer workshops for functional macramé designs such as plant hangers, shelves and water bottle holders. We also love a macramé wall-hanging, which we offer in various seasonal designs.
How hard is macramé?
Most macramé patterns are made up of four main knots. The knot we use to attach rope to either a wooden dowel or a piece of drift wood is called the Lark’s head knot, which is very straightforward. The other three knots are a square knot, a spiral knot, and a half hitch knot. Some people can find these tricky to pick up at first, but once you know them macramé is very simple. So, practice and effort are the only thing you need to excel in this craft!
We recommend for beginners to start with small projects such as a plant hanger or water bottle holder. This will help you learn the basic knots.
How long does the workshop last?
Most of our classes range between 2 and 3 hours. However, we occasionally offer a more intricate macramé wall-hanging session, which will be longer.
What materials do we use?
All materials will be provided for each workshop. You will be able to choose your colours of rope, which you will cut yourself to size. We also offer a range of wooden beads and rings that you can use to accesorize your work.
Where can I buy materials for macramé?
Apart from our adult-learning sessions, at our craft shop, Lark Design Make, located in Cathays, South Wales, near the Cardiff city centre, we stock macramé rope and wooden accessories so you can continue to make when you get home.
Gemma & the Lark team hope to see you at one of Lark’s craft workshops in Cardiff soon!
